Academic Instructional Facilitator
Location: Winston-Salem North Carolina
Salary: 80K
The Academic Instructional Technologist is a joint position between the School of Law and the Information Systems department focused on instructional design and related technologies. This position serves as the primary point of contact for academic technology questions working with law faculty to effectively integrate these technologies into their courses, enhancing teaching and learning. The successful candidate will be able to serve as a subject matter expert for the various academic technology platforms used at the law school and, more broadly, at the University. As such, the incumbent will play a vital role within the Law IT team, providing training and supporting the academic technology platforms.
Job Description
Instructional Technology Support/Consultation
-
Apply project management concepts in combination with Law School and campus policies and procedures in support of various instructional technology operations and projects.

Serve as the primary point of contact for academic technology questions.

Collaborate with faculty to effectively integrate technology in their classroom, both physical and virtual, to enhance teaching and learning.

Advise the Law School administration on best practices and policies for creating engaging, interactive, creative courses for law students.

Consult with faculty to design, create, and update highly engaging and interactive digital learning material and effective assessments in the University’s learning management system.

Conduct quality assurance reviews on courses and use data and feedback to guide course revision and the continual improvement of learning experiences and outcomes.

Serves as a key member of the digital learning design team, serving as technical and production support, as well as a contributor to overall strategy and planning.
Training
-
Lead academic technology orientation sessions for all new faculty (and any staff who utilize academic technology platforms).

Work with faculty, particularly adjunct faculty, to encourage the adoption and effective utilization of Canvas.

Provides one-on-one training and troubleshooting assistance to faculty and staff.

Conducts seminars, workshops, and training on various education and technology related topics.

Develops job aids for academic technology tools to serve as self-paced, self-service resources for faculty.

Lead the creation of user documentation for end users and administrators, identify and propose process improvements, and participate in the development of system design requirements.
Academic Technologies

Understand University wide technologies and provide updates and information on specific tools that could help the Law School.

Serve as a “bridge” for information sharing between IS and the School of Law.

In partnership with teams, pilot and implement new technologies and processes.
-
Keep abreast of latest developments in the field and suggest new strategic investments in Academic Technology.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
-
Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field with three to five years of administrative experience.

Proven experience in instructional design and instructional technology in a higher education setting with a range of academic content.

Knowledge of learning theories, instructional design models, as well as assessment and evaluation methods.

Experience incorporating course materials into learning management systems (preferably Canvas) and utilizing digital educational tools to promote student learning.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including academic leaders and faculty as well as those who struggle with technology.

Consultative/mentoring skills and the ability to provide guidance and support to faculty with a diverse range of technological and pedagogical needs.

The ability to work on multiple projects and other deliverables simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards and service.

Must exhibit the highest professional integrity and ability to work confidentially and with discretion.

Possess strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills; the ability to research, troubleshoot, and understand complex problems effectively and create well-reasoned solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.

Familiarity with the pedagogy of legal education preferred.

Proficiency in Canvas, Kaltura, Zoom, PollEverywhere, ExamSoft, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and other technologies relevant to instructional design.

Familiarity with Articulate 360 and Adobe Creative Suite.

Experience using a support request ticketing system and project management tools.
